Other Projects by StrategyOnline

Below is a list of additional products which we have built, or projects which we have worked on over the years.

Please contact us for more information about any of these applications.

A similar list of unreleased code components is published here.

Stock Control

In 2010 a client flew us over to Ireland, to develop a custom application which he could use to facilitate stock management and stock taking in several pubs.  Our client had almost three decades of experience in this field, and had built his own spreadsheet based solution, which he wanted us to convert into a full-blown product.  We have been given permission to use this software in South Africa.

Access Control

In 2007 a client asked us to develop a product which they could use for employees to clock in / clock out, by means of a swipe card.  We sourced the hardware for the card reader from CapeSoft, Gary’s previous employer, and developed the software and necessary hardware interfaces.  Once again, the client was happy for us to retain the South African rights to this product, and we now have the necessary hardware suppliers and code components in place to deliver similar systems to future clients.

AutoLogbook

In 2009 another software development company approached us, and showed us a product which they had designed called AutoLogbook.  They asked us to complete the development of the product, with the intention of releasing it as a joint product once it was completed.  We did complete the product, but for a number of reasons it was never launched.

The income tax system allows taxpayers who receive a travel allowance to claim a deduction for the use of their private vehicle for business purposes.  The AutoLogbook product was developed to facilitate this process.

AVG Mechanic

In September 2008 Gary experienced a problem with AVG’s anti-virus software, whereby it stopped downloading updates due to “Invalid Update Control CTF File” errors.  He built a little tool called AVG Mechanic to solve this problem, and made it available on the StrategyOnline blog.  This tool has subsequently been downloaded tens of thousands of times, and AVG themselves even contacted us thanking us for the solution!  Click here for more info.

DayDream

DayDream is a DreamHost Management Tool which we knocked together in 2009 as part of a DreamHost challenge.  Click here to download it (for free), or click here to view the original post when we released this tool.

J-Media Player

J-Media Player started off as an example application for other Clarion developers, showing off the functionality available through our J-Media library.  It was so well received that we decided to release it as a “product” in its own right.  J-Media Player is a lightweight yet extremely powerful media player, to use instead of Windows Media Player.  It’s smaller, faster, more powerful, and supports a wide range of formats, including DVDs.  Click here to download.

J-Proxy

A couple of years ago we needed a proxy server to do some testing, but couldn’t find one that was easy to use.  So, we built our own.  It’s very basic, but does the job.  Click here to download.
