AVG Mechanic
In September 2008 I experienced a problem with AVG anti-virus software (of which I’m a big fan), whereby it stopped downloading updates due to “Invalid Update Control CTF File” errors. I wrote a little tool called AVG Mechanic to solve this problem, and made it available here on the blog. This tool has subsequently been downloaded tens of thousands of times, and AVG themselves even sent me an email thanking me for the solution! Click here for more info.
