I’ve been working on J-Skype over the past couple of days, and I’ve added some unbelievably cool new features.
I’m also coming off cigarettes (again), so I’m binging on coffee. I am thus feeling a tad wired.
How many other blogs out there use the word “thus”?
The most significant new feature in J-Skype 2.0 is something that many users have been wanting for ages.
(Please extend your two index fingers and beat them rapidly against your desk. Or don’t. Up to you.)
J-Skype can now transfer files from one user to another!
Ta-da!
Under the hood the code is quite impressive. It reads in the binary file, converts that to base64 and encrypts everything before sending it off chunk by chunk. I still need to add compression, then we’ll be FLYING!
Here’s the best part.. You can do all of this with just one line of code!
You simply tell J-Skype which file you want to send, and who you you want to send it to. Easy peazy.
J-Skype breaks the binary file into pieces, and assembles those pieces back into a binary file on the other side. But Skype actually handles the network communication. This means that you don’t have to worry about firewalls, proxy servers, routers, none of that! Nice.
The bad news is that this product is now worth way more than the current price of $79. It started off 15 months ago as something pretty basic, but now you can send / intercept / receive Skype messages, you can place / answer / redirect / record calls. You can control video. You can send files. You can make two APPs talk to each other. You can send SMS messages. You can retrieve the Skype contacts list. You can build a Skype-Bot, or an auto-responder. You can create your own menu item directly in Skype! Etc, etc, etc.
Here’s what I’m thinking. J-Skype currently sells for $79. I think that it has now evolved into something that’s worth at least $149. So when J-Skype 2.0 is released the price will be increasing from $79 to $149. If you already own version 1.x, you can upgrade to version 2 for the low, low price of just $29.
If you’re ready to commit, you can get the upgrade from here.
If you don’t yet own J-Skype, you can buy version 1 for $79, and then upgrade to version 2 for an extra $29. That’s a savings of $41!
But the offer only lasts until version 2 is officially released some time next week. So grab it now while it’s cheap.

Wow! did you make my day. This has been needed for a long time. I hope I am the first to upgrade I am on my way to do that right now. Thanx Gary big time. Now this thing is going to have some meat on it. I bet now we will see more of this in 365 huh??????
Just a quick thought have they added the money transfer to the API yet? That is another feature I have been needing if it is possible.
Cheers,
Joe
Hi Joe.
You’re very welcome, thanks for the comments! I have started mapping out how I could integrate Skype into O365, more news later..
There is still no payment API to transfer money using Skype. However a private company has drawn up a document (http://www.connectotel.com/skype/skypepaymentapi.pdf) outlining how they think it should work, and many developers are pushing this and hoping that Skype will implement it. It would be a fantastic addition to the Skype API if it’s added, as it would enable 3rdParty developers to build APPs that could make money.
I’ll keep you posted..
Best Regards,
Gary.
