Announcing: DayDream

(The following post first appeared on our main website several weeks ago, but was only made available to a small number of users.)

DayDream is an administrative tool for anyone who uses DreamHost. You enter your login email address and DreamHost API key, and in response DayDream will enable you to…

  • View a list of all of the domains that you are hosting with DreamHost.
  • View Email Accounts for each of those domains, and view emails for any of those accounts! In the next build we’ll include the ability to delete emails, and potentially preview them before they have been downloaded.
  • Transfer files (via FTP) between your PC and any of your DreamHost domains. In the future we’ll add synchronization functionality, and the ability to FTP using multiple threads, download entire sites / directories, etc.
  • Easily view traffic stats (provided by DreamHost) for any of your domains. Hopefully the DreamHost API will eventually allow us to integrate this feature more smoothly, and we may ultimately build our own analysis engine.
  • View information about your Announcement Lists, and compose and send plain text or html announcements! There seems to be a size issue with sending html announcements, but I’m sure between ourselves and DreamHost this will be sorted out in the near future. We’ll also be expanding this feature in the next build to include adding new members to groups, etc.
  • Easily view DNS and registration information on any of your domains. We’ll be adding system-wide reports into the next build, possibly also integrating this with PIMs like Outlook to add notifications into your calendar when domains are due to expire.
  • We’ve already started working on adding a new tab to capitalize on the new MYSQL API functions, that’ll be coming in the next build as well…

How do you get it? Simply download DayDream for FREE by clicking here, then follow these steps…

Step 1 – Run the installer.

Step 2 – Once you have finished installing DayDream, click the “Finish” button to start dreaming and launch the software…

Step 3 – Enter your DreamHost login email address, as well as your DreamHost API Key. These can be obtained from DreamHost.

Step 4 – Download your DreamHost data. (You’ll need to do this from time to time in the future to keep DayDream up to date – just click on “Download DreamHost Data” from the “File” menu to do this…)

Step 5 – Your download progress can be viewed at the top of the screen. Wait until it’s done. Drink coffee if necessary.

Step 6 – Once your DreamHost data has been download, you’ll see a list of your domains on the left of the screen. Choose a domain, then click on a tab to do stuff. Groovy.

DayDream is currently on version 0.1. We’ll be adding lots of features over the coming weeks, so please feel free to contact us with your ideas.

Thanks for dreaming!

Thanks for the comment.. Not at this point. We are currently evaluating how best to move forward with this product. Details will be announced here when we have them. Any suggestions, comments or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

This looks great, I was wanting to make something like this (but no skills).

The MYSql part is really the bit that is needed, and a backup of the databses to be automated through an appi or similar.

Also we all have our backup account, would live a way to sinchronise sites with it as the backup.

The potential is also there to sub lease realestate via this app.

Thinking on the fly, a single user account for a domain could be set up and then the client given the app to manage it. ????

Maybe not ok with dreamhost, but as I sell my domains, I wonder how to move them to a seperate account.

Problem solving apps sell well :)

I was just looking around for ways to improve my hosting at dreamhost and found your DayDream app.
Very nice! But I see no activity since 2009. Are there plans to keep this app going and fix some of the little bugs that are in it?
